Nothing Here Was an Accident

It begins with a narrator counting the lives she could have lived, and moves through abandoned rooms, machines, open doors, fire and the stories people build around their own damage. By the final track she no longer needs to count those alternate lives.

It is not a conventional story with characters and plot. Its continuity comes through recurring objects and ideas: rooms remember, machines keep running, doors stay open, fire destroys without becoming a beginning, and light turns gradually from something observed into something deliberately left burning.

Claustrophobic industrial trip-hop opens the record and expands into cinematic Doom Soul. The House Keeps Score treats memory as architecture; Mercy Engine tries to automate forgiveness; Saint Automatic is the most explicitly industrial piece here, about routine and obedience and the moment a system stops telling people what happens next.

The Weight of Open Doors is the monumental centre: freedom turning out to be heavier than confinement, because choice removes the possibility of blaming the lock. I Was Here Before the Fire refuses to let destruction become the beginning of an identity.

The title track is the album’s central statement, separating circumstance from habit, fear and conscious choice. Leave One Burning closes quietly, back where the record opened: nothing destroyed, nothing denied, one light left on.
