LEADGLASS

LEADGLASS is a five-piece Doom Soul band built around weight, restraint and fractured beauty.

Blending industrial trip-hop, cinematic art rock, chamber instrumentation and dark soul, the group combines massive live drums, distorted melodic bass, baritone guitar, prepared piano, analog electronics and low strings around the unmistakable contralto of vocalist Ruth Calder.

It began with a simple idea: heaviness does not require volume, and darkness does not require spectacle.

Rather than building constant walls of sound, LEADGLASS works through subtraction, silence and sudden expansion. Songs can become extremely heavy without ever tipping into conventional metal.

Calder’s unusually low contralto moves between intimate spoken phrasing and controlled, powerful melodic performances — the emotion comes from restraint, from breath and from the weight of the words rather than from spectacular delivery.

Around her, Miles Harrow’s sparse baritone guitar, Owen Kells’ distorted bass and analog electronics, Iona Mercer’s chamber arrangements and Daniel Rook’s monumental percussion make music that feels mechanical and deeply human at once.

The writing follows the same philosophy. Everyday objects become emotional evidence: a door, a key, a glass, an empty room or a light left burning can carry more weight than a conventional declaration.

LEADGLASS does not pursue darkness as an aesthetic exercise, and it is not interested in romanticising damage. Its songs examine what remains after it — including the uncomfortable distinction between what happened to us and the choices we made while it was happening.

Heavy without becoming metal, cinematic without becoming orchestral excess, intimate without becoming fragile: the result is music built around gravity, tension and consequence.
